Housekeeper

Trico LivingWell:
Trico LivingWell is a new older adult living community in Kingsland, Calgary. It is Canada’s first older adult aging-in-place community pursuing the vigorously vetted WELL v2TM Certification from the International WELL Building Institute – a premier framework and performance-based system for buildings with features that advance human health and well-being worldwide. Trico LivingWell offers a campus of care and services for independent living, inclusive living, assisted living, and memory care accommodations respectful to individual rights, choices, needs, abilities, and enjoyment.

We are currently recruiting for Housekeepers on a part-time basis.

Number of Positions: 02 (0.6 and 0.8 FTE schedule)

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Housekeeping Lead, the Housekeeper’s hourly flexible position works on a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 8 working hours per shift, as agreed with the Housekeeping Lead. The person performs routine and as-required tasks to ensure cleanliness, sanitization, and disinfection of the public areas, residential units, offices, parkade, and any area within the Trico LivingWell premises are maintained and kept at a high standard, as well as assists with other janitorial duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs work that meets the licensing standards to provide a clean, sanitized, and safe environment for all occupants;
  • Apply consistent healthcare and hospitality best practices, policies, and procedures to enhance Infection Prevention & Control measures and hospitality experience in the Housekeeping department;
  • Vacuums carpets, dry and wet mops floors, dust and washes all surface areas such as furniture, blinds, light fixtures, mattresses, counters, vents, closets, and ledges; washes and disinfects bathroom fixtures such as toilets, tubs, showers, and sinks; polishes chrome; wipes walls and doors; spray cleans interior windows and mirrors; empties and washes garbage containers. Shampoo carpets and furniture as required.
  • Replenishes soap supplies and paper towels and replaces trash liners.
  • Strips linen from and remakes beds as per schedule; replenishes linen items.
  • Replenishes cleaning supplies.
  • Transports garbage and recyclables to designated areas and maintains waste disposal rooms.
  • Advises the Housekeeping Supervisor of any problems with cleaning equipment or supplies and reports noticeable damage to the building surface or equipment.
  • Operates floor machines in performing floor maintenance duties such as polishing and refurbishing tile floor areas.
  • Performs assigned duties in the Laundry Room, and also responds to the need for janitorial services on a schedule or an as-needed basis.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Flexible to work on other hours or days in the week if required.

Required Education, Credentials, and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would qualify. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • Completion of grade 6 education or better supplemented with related training courses;
  • Previous experience in the provision of housekeeping services desirable;
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with all levels of our community;
  • Experience with senior living is an asset;
  • WHMIS Certified;
  • Proficient in English
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer-focus skills;
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience required;
  • Current (within 6 months) Police Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Screening;

Physical Job Requirements:

This position requires being able to:

  • Lift up to 40 pounds;
  • Able to work in confined spaces;
  • Push, and pull wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds;
  • Use both hands and feet regularly to perform physical assisting duties;
  • Bend, and stoop, regularly;
  • Walk and stand on a variety of surfaces for at least 4 hours per day;
  • Climb stairs, operate elevators, lift and move small equipment and furniture;

    Health Care Aid (HCA)

    We are hiring Health Care Aides on a full-time, part-time basis!

    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Director of Health & Wellness, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is an unregulated healthcare employee, trained to provide personal care and related services in a Trico Living Well (TLW) community. The HCA functions under the direction, instruction, and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN)/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) while adhering to all related provincial/local acts and standards, regulatory health authorities, TLW’s standards, guidelines, policies and procedures and WELL Building standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Adheres and supports residents with personal care services and activities of daily living based on the personalized health care plan developed for each resident;
    • Supports and maintains a healthy, clean, and safe environment; including resident and nursing equipment;
    • Encourages residents to eat a proper diet and take adequate fluids while respecting the resident’s right to free choice;
    • Initiates and participates in wellness activities provided for residents as described in the wellness programs/services and encourages residents to socialize and participate in planned activities or programs to develop friendships with other residents;
    • Observes, documents, and reports on any changes in residents’ mental, physical, and functional condition to the RN/LPN supervisor; including safety concerns, emergencies, and physical environment;
    • Provides medication administration support under the direction and supervision of the RN/LPN, in accordance with the Alberta Health “Medication Administration Program” guidelines, and with recognized certification and annual competency training;
    • Carries out treatments as directed by regulated professional Staff, RN/LPN, and documents accordingly;
    • Responds to resident, family, and visitor concerns and ensures appropriate action is taken within decision-making authority, and/or concern is reported to RN/LPN;
    • Understands, practices, and follows all Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures;

    Qualifications

    • Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions consistent with the job requirements in English;
    • Graduate of a Health Care Aide Program- recognized by Alberta Health and must be enrolled in the Health Care Aides (HCA) Directory. (HCAs who graduated from other provinces or countries and did not complete their education through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution in Alberta must complete the Substantial Equivalence (SE) Assessment);
    • Must provide Assistant with Medication certification;
    • 2 years + experience working with older adults in the community health services is an asset;
    • Valid Basic Cardiac Life Support certification an asset;
    • Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties;
    • Current (within 6 months) Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Screening.

      Junior Maintenance Technician

      We are currently recruiting for a Junior Maintenance Technician on a full-time basis.

      Job Summary:

      Reporting to the Building Operator, as a Junior Maintenance Technician in Trico LivingWell, you will be responsible for responding to all resident service requests and work orders, performing maintenance activities, conducting site inspections, assisting in resident move-out inspections, and grounds keeping. The prospective candidate should have a general knowledge of building operations systems, electrical and plumbing, HVAC, Fire Alarm, and Life safety equipment with some related work experience.

       Job Duties

      • Must be able to work very well with seniors.
      • Respond to resident service requests and work orders as required.
      • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in performing maintenance activities to meet our residents including preventive and corrective maintenance activities
      • Assist in conducting site inspections in keeping the properties’ general condition, appearance, and safety, remedying any deficiencies, and documenting these inspections where directed.
      • Help to ensure Fire Safety Equipment are in compliance with the Fire Code, and fire safety procedures are followed annually.
      • Follow preventative maintenance plans.
      • Assist and maintain janitorial supplies, tools, and workshops.
      • Assist with resident move-out inspections
      • Assist in preparing vacated units for new occupancy.
      • Perform routine maintenance in units.
      • Assist in conducting unit inspections.
      • Assist with grounds keeping, lawn mowing, weeding, snow removal, exterior clean up, and graffiti removal.
      • Monitor and program building lighting, security features, automation systems, and fire alarm systems.
      • Liaise with and monitor sub-contractors to ensure compliance with building rules and regulations.
      • Ensure compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
      • Must be available to work on-call/standby and emergency call-out to provide sufficient building coverage.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Qualifications and Experience

      • General Knowledge of building operations systems including building automation, electrical and plumbing systems, HVAC, Fire Alarm and Life Safety would be an asset.
      • Willingness to train and learn new skills, good with your hands, and willing to troubleshoot
      • Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations and procedures, including national and industry codes such as WHMIS.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new systems
      • 6 months to 1 year of maintenance or related experience
      • Previous experience in painting, drywall repairs, light plumbing, light electrical work, appliance troubleshooting carpentry, and handling power tools would be an asset
      • Computer/ Phone Application literate
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with tenants, external contractors, internal teams, and other stakeholders.
      • Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license and have a reliable vehicle
      • A current (within 6 months) Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
